ICRISAT invites applications from Indian Nationals for Scientific Officer - RS/GIS. The position is based at ICRISAT- Patancheru Hyderabad, with the Global Research program on Innovation Systems for the Dryland (ISD).

A Scientific Officer position is proposed at the RS/GIS lab to assist the Geospatial science expert in the field of remote sensing (RS) and GIS. Apart from conducting and supervising research in the field of geospatial science the scientist will need some experience hand for acquiring, preprocessing selected RS datasets from different sources. The Scientific Officer will also organize and assist the GIS manager in warehousing imagery and the derived out puts in an easily accessible form for publications and awareness. The Scientific Officer will also develop algorithms for automating routine imagery processing.

Responsibilities:
Analyze and organize data needed in developing and prioritizing ICRISAT mandate crops in South Asia (high resolution SAR and optical data)
Assist the RS specialist in tasks related to interpretation of the imagery
Conduct fieldwork for ground truth and validation of maps
Collect data from partners
Perform multi-tasking duties as may be assigned by Scientist from time to time

Essential criteria:
Masters degree in Remote sensing, GIS and related fields;
2+ years experience working in a Remote sensing lab or similar environment;
Experience in programming skills like R/Python is highly desirable;
Good knowledge of data management;
Experience in RS/GIS like ERDAS/ ENVI, ArcGIS, MS Excel is highly desirable;
Have a relevant experience in Semi-Arid Tropics (SAT) related research;
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

General:

This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position for three years renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the institutes continuing need for the position.
