ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian Nationals for the post of Research Associate - Spatial & Climate Analysis and Big Data position of Innovation Systems for the Drylands program to be based at ICRISAT - Patancheru, India.

The Systems Analysis for Climate Smart Agriculture (SACSA) Theme under the Research Program Innovation Systems for the Drylands (ISD) is currently recruiting for a Research Associate to support the implementation of research activities aimed at providing climate services to smallholder farmers. This work is a part of the project Climate services for better risk management and build resilience of smallholder farmers in the highly vulnerable rainfed areas of India supported by Monsoon Mission II (MOES). The most desirable candidate will be a statistician who is able to use insight into climate and agricultural systems to develop new knowledge on managing climate risks in agriculture.

Responsibilities:
Provide expertise in big data analytics to understand temporal and spatial dynamics and changes in agricultural systems
Conduct analysis of crop-soil-weather data to provide insights into climate related vulnerabilities
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams from ICRISAT, NARES, IITM and IMD and higher education institutions to source data and information, build capacity in data analytics and application
Analyze output from integrated modelling frameworks (e.g. grid based crop models linked to climate forecasts) to produce predictions of crop performance over space and time

Essential criteria:
PhD in statistics, mathematics, spatial sciences or related discipline
Analytical skills that can be applied in understanding long-term climatic data, agricultural production, spatial and temporal variability or modelled outputs
Good publication record, as evidenced by research papers in refereed journals
An understanding of Indian agriculture and climate
Working knowledge of climate or cropping systems simulation tools
Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
Excellence in English (both spoken and written)

General:

This is a Consolidated (CON) position for three years renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the institutes continuing need for the position.
