ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian Nationals for the post of Research Associate Digital Agriculture position of Innovation Systems for the Drylands program to be based at ICRISAT - Patancheru, India.

The DAY theme requires a Research Associate to guide the research and design of agri-tech solutions particularly around the delivery of climate information services to smallholder farmers. A typical digital agriculture project will have activities spanning analysis, systems design, software development, testing, deployment, roll out and user acceptance and adoption. Since ICRISAT is a science driven organization, the projects must necessarily embed the scientific edge and thinking around such engagements. The Research Associate will use their knowledge of agriculture and the context of smallholder farming to help design and test the application of digital interventions that support smallholder farmers in managing risky agricultural enterprises.

Responsibilities:
Use their agricultural domain expertise and knowledge of smallholder farming to help design digital applications that translate research into effective management.
Study the impacts of digital based interventions on decision making and ultimately their impacts on farm livelihoods and resilience.
Support the DAY theme in writing research publications that presents nuanced analysis on the impacts that digital agriculture has on smallholder farmers and the sector.

Essential criteria:
PhD in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, ICTs for Ag with experience in operations research and decision making or having 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after M.Tech with at least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) Journal.
An ability to design surveys or impact assessments aimed at understanding adoption and decision making.
Good publication record, as evidenced by research papers in refereed journals.
Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams involving range of stakeholders.
Ability and willingness to participate in field work and travel extensively in India.
Good written and oral communications skills in English.
Desirable Criteria

Interest in the application of agronomy, agrometeorology in smallholder agricultural systems to manage climate risk and build resilience.
Knowledge of agriculture and how the application of digital agriculture may enhance productivity, logistics or market access for smallholder farmers and value chain actors.

General:

This is a Consolidated (CON) position for three years renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the institutes continuing need for the position.
