ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian Nationals for the post of Research Associate Agrometeorology/Agronomy position of Innovation Systems for the Drylands program to be based at ICRISAT - Patancheru, India.

The Systems Analysis for Climate Smart Agriculture (SACSA) Theme under the Research Program Innovation Systems for the Drylands (ISD) is currently recruiting a Research Associate to support the implementation of research activities aimed at providing climate services to smallholder farmers. This work is a part of the project Climate services for better risk management and build resilience of smallholder farmers in the highly vulnerable rainfed areas of India supported by Monsoon Mission II (MOES). The expertise required includes knowledge of agrometeorology and agronomy, good understanding of potentials and limitations of semi-arid areas and pigeonpea based systems, experience in using system simulation models in managing climate risks in agriculture.

Responsibilities:
Conduct critical analysis of crop weather relationships to assess climate related vulnerabilities and identify management opportunities,
Review, synthesize and prepare technical reports and peer reviewed publications.
Plan, execute and evaluate on-station and on-farm studies to assess usefulness of climate services.
Develop decision trees that help make informed decisions in planning and managing agricultural systems under variable climatic conditions

Essential criteria:
PhD in Agrometeorology, crop science or related discipline.
Good understanding of climate information in general and its role in planning and managing agricultural systems.
Analytical skills to conduct QA/QC tests and quantify trends in variability using long-term climate data.
Demonstrated ability to plan and implement field experiments.
Good publication record, as evidenced by research papers in refereed journals.
Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams involving range of stakeholders.
Ability and willingness to participate in field work and travel extensively in India.
Good written and oral communications skills in English.
Desirable Criteria

Agronomic knowledge of major dryland crops and cropping systems in India.
Good understanding of climate and weather forecasts and weather based agro-advisory services.
Working knowledge of farming system models such as APSIM or DSSAT.

General:

This is a Consolidated (CON) position for three years renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the institutes continuing need for the position.
