ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian Nationals for the post of Junior Research Fellow: Agrometeorology/Agronomy position of Innovation Systems for the Drylands program to be based at ICRISAT - Patancheru, India.

The Systems Analysis for Climate Smart Agriculture (SACSA) Theme under the Research Program Innovation Systems for the Drylands (ISD) is currently recruiting for two Junior Research Fellows to support implementation of research activities aimed at improving the impact of climate information services to smallholder farmers. This work is a part of the project Climate services for better risk management and build resilience of smallholder farmers in the highly vulnerable rainfed areas of India supported by Monsoon Mission II.

Responsibilities:
Collect and assemble historical data on crop and weather from various sources and develop an understanding of farmer management of climate risk.
Collect information from the target districts on climate forecasts, agro-advisories, planting behavior of farmers, crop production.
Execute on-station and on-farm studies and demonstrations to assess the management of pigeonpea based farming systems of the target regions.

Essential criteria:
M.Sc./M.Tech in Agriculture, Agrometeorology or related field.
Demonstrated ability to conduct field experiments and collect field data.
Skills in data collection, organizing/formatting data and basic analysis.
Ability and willingness to participate in field work in liaison with farmers and be based in a rural location in Andhra Pradesh or Maharashtra.
Excellence in English (both spoken and written).

Desirable Criteria

Field exposure with understanding of agronomic management practice of major crops and cropping systems in India.
Experience in collection of crop and soil samples and analysis.
Knowledge of Hindi and/or the local language of study locations.

General:

This is a Consolidated (CON) position for three years renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the institutes continuing need for the position.
